Understanding the Travel Work Permit
A travel work permit, also known as a work visa, is a document that allows foreign nationals to legally work within South Sudan. This permit is essential for individuals seeking employment in the country.
To obtain a work permit, employees need to submit several documents:
- Copy of valid passport
- Copy of 12-month visa
- Two passport photos
- Resume and relevant documents on academic qualifications
- Employment contract
- Letter of employment
- Police clearance
The Ministry of Labor will also request some documents from the employer, in particular:

Application process
- As an employer, you can work with employees who are not citizens of your country to help them get a work permit.
- The employee must start the process of obtaining a multiple-entry visa valid for 12 months. After obtaining this visa, they can go to South Sudan.
- Once an employee enters the country, they can apply for a work permit through the Ministry of Labor. As part of the application process, they need to obtain permission to take fingerprints from the local police. As an employer, you must provide a letter of employment containing a job offer in the country. You also need to provide a copy of the employment contract.
- The Ministry of Labor will ensure that your employment contract meets the minimum requirements set out in the labor law. The employer will need their permission to hire an employee who is not a citizen of the country.
- You will also need to provide all the necessary information about the company to apply. The applicant may submit these materials together with other items to the Ministry of Labor.
